  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 4 - 6 Servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 (16-ounce) package frozen southern-style diced hash browns

1 (12-ounce) package cooked breakfast sausage links, cut into bite-sized pieces

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup milk

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent dough

3 tablespoons butter, melted

Gravy:

1 (12-ounce) package cooked breakfast sausage links, cut into bite-sized pieces

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups milk

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a 3-quart casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine hash browns, sausage links, cheese and milk. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, salt and pepper. Pour the flour mixture over the hash browns and stir until combined. Pour the mixture into prepared casserole dish.

Unfold crescent dough and place over hash browns, pressing onto the edges of the pan to seal. Brush with melted butter then bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan over low heat, cook sausage links until lightly browned. Stir in flour until well blended, then gradually stir in milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in salt and pepper. Cut baked breakfast casserole into squares and serve warm with gravy.

Notes

Customize your gravy by adjusting the seasonings to your taste. You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a hint of spice or extra black pepper for more kick.
For a cheesy twist, sprinkle shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese on top of the casserole during the last 5 minutes of baking.
